Brad Green & Big G – Runaway

A live home recording of George and I writing and working on a tune..  Dont think the band ever really took a shine to this song, but I think it’s one of my better ones..  I never totally finished it..  Foot timing stomps and background prompting are loud due to the wood floors and high celing in the loungeroom – an awesome room for acoustic jamming though..  Live off the field recorder.

Nice rip Brad, nice rip,.. I got into that. If you were going to make a completed version of the tune, I'd probably cut it back about 1 minute though. Still it's very nice, just an acoustic, and yet, it all meshed well with the limited amount of implements inserted, thats the sign of a good prospect, You kept the stomp timing quite nice too, a skipping riverdance of a solo,..I bet your pretty wicked on the drum kick, if you ever managed to snake past Laif every now and then. You make me weep prefusively when you create or co-create many o' many a good prospects and they just dissapear,.. if I had a prospect like this I'd be squealing all the way through fruity loops.

Thanks for the encouraging words mangrove.. I totally agree this needs to be cut down in either length or chorus repetition.. I always find it better to just go with it when the usual slow task of writing lyrics is actually moving fast and smoothly – as was the case here.. george and I came up with all these in a short afternoon.. Spent a fair amount time during writing trying to keep Big G from over singing.. he did very well in the first 3rd of the tune but got a little loose towards the end.. Love or hate his voice – it's a unique and powerful S.O.B.. This was done when the band was still together, but G and I are keen to try and do this properly in the future..

Ahhh great!,.. the return of the beast,.. I did miss him when polymer broke up. With his physical set up, I can understand how difficult it must be to really strive for the softer emotive high notes, not only has he got larger vocal folds than normal, he's got a natural rasp to fight against aswell,.. all this is GREAT for certain genres of music,.. I bet he could do a good job at Joe Cocker songs,.. *light bulb* ..hey Brad,.. do you know the chords for Cocker's version of the beatles 'Litle help from my friends' ?.. swsssssss!!!…

    Update*

Linked the 1st band jam of the tune for comparison. The Band jam was the 1st time I showed the band the song – George is making up lyrics on the spot.. We used this recording as a guide for the final "Acoustic Writing" vocals.. I'm actually really like the guitar solo at 3:35 in the band one.. got lucky on the spot it seems.. Gonna steal that for something else now.. lol..

you know this is probably one of the best polymer songs ever i would love to cover this one.Its sticks to your brain like super glue.. i can hear the rhythm beat keeping it afloat. i must say i miss that giants voice a bit its good when he keeps low and at a comfortable tone.. when he goes out side that…. well not so good. but true solid voice. and awesome complimenting chords. The last bit was a bit of a breakfast but hey all good in the end. good song Brad and George i think i prefer the acoustic virgin a touch better. I wish you guys had an extra shot to nail that.

well, you know guys, in the fact the this sounds 100x better as an acoustic version, although i'm not sure its to any fault of the song writing, i'm starting to see the big "G" effect in personality effect. The acoustic writing Brad is is really good, big g's voice is best at the start but once he starts to let go it gets worse which is usually opposite, but the song is solid, i think it loses all of it's feel and personality transferring to rock track status…having said that the personal feel needs to stay solid for a track like this to work and it's lost with the the acoustic to electric/band transition…..

really quite like this track but mostly for the acoustic version, but seriously enjoyed it. it's a ballad i i can take it for what it represents…..also Tim would love to hear a cover of this track….
