How can i post a song here?

Posting a song on tFML is quite straight forward. All you have to do is go to the Post Page or send an email to [email protected] with these 3 things:

1) Artist Name and Song Title as subject i.e. John Smith – Whatever

2) Attach an .mp3 with no more than 192kbps bit rate

3) In the body of the email put a short description for your song similar to other posts on the site

If you have any further questions about posting here you can always shoot an email through to [email protected] and we’ll be happy to answer any questions you have.

What’s this site all about?

Late on night in Feb 09 after too many beers, one of us frustratingly stated “damn, this file sharing is crap! we need some kinda online storage for all our music!” – thefreemusiclabel.com seed was planted..

TheFreeMusicLabel.com (tFML) was initially created for a few friends to share their home recorded song ideas in an easier format than email and chat room file swaps . Commercial online storage sites were looked at and fancy Peer2Peer networks fumbled with. Eventually we just broke down and decided “screw it.. lets make our own”. In a flurry of activity, a domain name was purchased, web storage was secured and a basic website cobbled together. We were all pretty impressed with ourselves.. but we wanted more..

In the coming months the page grew beyond “some kinda online storage” with the addition of sections for song descriptions, listener comments, ratings and forums. In June 09 it was decided that since the page was all setup and worked so amazingly well (we were all a little surprised to be honest) we might as well let others post their music – on one condition – it’d be totally free. We know all good musicians are broke!

Hope you all enjoy it!

Is this site really free?

And the answer is Yes!. All the music on this site is covered under a Creative Commons License, which in short means you are free to download, copy and share the music on this site with whoever you like for free with attribution.

The things you cannot do with the music you download from this site are: use it for commercial purposes, alter, transform or build upon the work you download here. For more information on this please check out: Creative Commons License

The basic idea is that, nowhere on the site do we have ad support and in no way do we charge anyone for downloading and distributing the work found on the site. We plan to keep it this way as we believe that watching an artist develop work whilst getting good feedback through comments and ratings is payment enough to realize that what we are accomplishing here is a model that works for everybody. So please rate and comment on each song you listen to as the feedback the artists get from this as they develop their work progressively is what keeps the site up and running.

How can i contact you?

Alternatively if you find email “old skool” you can post on the Forum and we can answer your queries there along with the wonderful site fans that I’m sure are more than happy to help aswell.
