DCWAVE – Fallen Hero

Raw Cut
I’m working out the lyrics to this song. It’s dedicated to my 16 year younger brother who is headed to either Iraq or
Afghanistan in a month.
He too is a talented musician. (http://www.myspace.com/114665321). I hope he comes back with all his fingers so he can keep playing.

The verses have to be finished by next Thursday.
Before the end of the year this should be finished. There will be crunchy guitars and a string section.

*Full Lyrics – 3 verses

Had my son playing the acoustic bass (he’s just learning the bass)*

Finished the remaining verses. Going to be testing it live tonight at the open mic. Some work still needs to be done on the verses to tighten the up and really convey the feeling I want.
I'll probably toss a rough cut up this weekend sometime.

Then its off to the music mill to start the arrangement process of the full song.

Yeah, very good potential,.. and immediately, the title, makes you zoom in with emphasis on the lyrics, it does for me,..because your definition could be ambiguous as to where this mould of hero is in society,..it reminds me in sentiment, to the song in Australia sung by Jimmy Barnes but written by 'Journey' ..(I think).. "Working class man" ,..and also a bit like John Paul Young's song "Yesterdays hero" .. this sentiment is grass-roots identifiable, and has been a popular theme amongst successful songs in Australian music,..

Once again very interested to see how you will further empower your core idea,.. and from what I can see you are definitely on the right track in my opinion, I see a 'strong connection' thus far.

I really like your vocal's with a bit of husk and smokieness (from middle of verse). It grabs almost instantly, and to me, really opens the lyrics up and makes me want to follow their story to the end. I agree with mangrove that this has really great potential. I also like the odd ball extra beat in the middle of the the chorus – not sure if it was intentional – but it add's a quirk that would regain my attention if i was drifting away and just swaying along. Easy listening is nice and all, but i really like little surprises in songs.

Interested to hear what you come up with for the "really cool part".. lol.. oh, I also like the "turns page noise".. Stuff like this is exactly what Rawcuts is all about and we need more of it!

Personally, I seem to like your rawcuts more than the main page songs. Your production/engineering skills are obviously great, but sometimes they seem a little too wide and calculated to get me hooked in the chorus. This kinda thing however grabs me.

Very interested to see if you can amp this up to your usual production standards while keeping or boosting it's great smokey core feel..

I like where your going these days.. I'm all ears..
