Relationships are often complicated things. We all have walls put up to shield ourselves from others. Its when those walls come down that the relationship changes. Sometimes it’s time to leave.
Crunchy guitars, melodic piano and memorable bridge and chorus create a toe-tapping / head bobbing rock song.

DCWAVE,… You bring gifts!,..nice,… nice,.. reminds me a bit of the retro band ‘Del Feugos’… I liked bits of implementations everywhere, the piano mixed in was a splendid little spine roller, and everything seemed to be solidly cooperating, including the vocals, it’s got a good structure, and the lyrics are purposeful and coherent, there were no practical errors whatsoever that I could detect, and in the end it will all come down to personal tastes I believe,..
As far as constructive criticism is concerned,.. maybe ..you were a little too perfect DC,.. I would have preferred a little more of a frayed edge and spontaniety, perhaps some more airation,.. I guess the piano was drowned out a fraction in areas and I missed it as I waved goodbye to it after the brilliant introduction,.. but I could still hear it effectively doing it’s job with the group,.. would have preferred just from my point of view,.. a touch more ‘air’ and ‘fragmentation’ in this tune,.. but nevertheless it sounds professional, a good illustration of your skills, and you sing very well!, a good gritty tone,.. I’d love to hear more. Warmest welcome mate.
73% from me.
Thanks for the welcome, my buddies in Polymer suggested I post here. I agree with the comment on the piano, I was torn between bringing forward more or having it play a low key roll. The part it plays was originally going to be another guitar part, but I got carried away one day and left it in.
Del Fuegos, huh? I’ll have to check them out; I’ve heard of them but never listened to them.
This is the first rock song I have done in a few years (thanks to my new collaborator and singer, Allen McConnell bringing me some solid lyrics) . I spend most of my time composing underscore for film and TV.
I’ll have another tasty tune up in about a week or so.
DC, glad you posted sucka. I liked the piano entry with the rock guitar shoving it out of the way. The bridge section is structured well for the chorus and Allen has a great voice for this style. Nice work. Thanks for posting.
One friendly request, if you have it, could you post some old socal metal from back in the day?
Damn.. this sounds really well done.. A very strong song. Nice progressions with good playing, you cant go wrong!.. Liked the guitar/piano lines behind the chorus, the single note guitar pattern back in the mix.. really gives the chorus depth and interest. My only gripe is that the vocal track sounded a little "pasted in". Kind of floating on top of the tune, with a bit too much separation from the rest of the mix. Probably a bit too compressed in the verse for my liking too. More emotion might seep through the verse if it could breath a little more.. Maybe add some subtle whole tune reverb to blend it in? It might help give the vocals a smoother feel while retaining the cool edgy compressed sound. This is just my personal taste though so feel free to tell me to jam it.. lol..
As far as the vocals themselves, bloody good.. "solid" i guess is the word im after, from start to finish.. The lyrics are perfect for the music.. The mixing levels were great – loved the vox doubling/harmony in the chorus – I can never get them to sit that well so close to each other in my stuff (one is always too loud or they cross each other in volume during phrases taking away the focus) but this was perfect.
I don’t know who you are but, welcome to the site mate!.. Dissecting really well made songs like this will help me get better, and raise the bar for all other posters (it’s secretly a little competitive in here.. haha)
tidy work, and again… welcome!
DC wave this is nice. IT is pretty damn professional. Smooth al the way through.Agree a little with greenblob but still its a lot different to the styles played on this site. you have you shit together.
I shit and pissed my pants when i herd this song but i was sick at the time so……………yeah good tune.
very good sound…..sounds professionally done. Nice straight forward rock song….I enjoy some of the chorus guitar licks….meshes well with the harmonies you sing. I always respect someone who can write catchy material that doesn’t necessarily focus so much on technical speed or difficulty…but just on straight well flowing song writing….the verses lead nicely into the choruses…the vocal lines are steady and strong and lead nicely into the choruses…nicely done….you can hear the level of musician you are in just one song…very professional. Anxious to hear more of what you have.
DC,.. above,.. ^ ,..I’m not the brightest bit of chrystal in the chandelir,.. but were you the music composer and creator,.. but had a seperate singer and lyricist for this one?.. If so, warm welcome to him too.
@Mangrove Jack – Yes, I am the composer, creator, arranger, producer, engineer, cook, janitor, etc…; I play the instruments for this song. Allen McConnell is the vocalist and lyricist. He is primarily a drummer turned songwriter. We are both living in Spanish Fork and perform regularly at the Boothe Brother’s Open Mic night.
If any of you are up to driving down this way, every Thursday from 8pom to 10-130ish we have an open mic for solosits, bands, etc. !st week is Blues night, 2nd is classic country, 3rd is rock night, and 4th is acoustic/songwiter night. Bring your guitars… we provide the drums, and amps. (you can bring your amps too)
Thanks DC,.. very greatful to have you here,.. the open mic night sounds cool, would have definitely liked to see you play live, but living in Australia makes that a bit difficult lol,.. still and all,.. ‘Polymer’ posted a video clip of themselves live not too long ago,.. maybe we’ll have a DC Wave vid up from the open mic night pretty soon?..
Oz…huh, that would be a drive. I thought this was a local Utah site… LOL on me.
It’s Aus….. Composer ya say, as in "computer-poser"?..Blime Egell is that you? Have you moved to Ozmerica? DC Edgell? Have you got a swimming wagon? DId you get there in your swimming wagon? When is death metal night? I am sold! YOuR ALL THAT! You ArE THe SHIT BRO! AND your a cook. A cook…… wtf. I think their is something your not telling us………your a Chef….Arn’t ya your A BLOODY chef you can tell us. I thought your nacho’s needed a little more salsa..Creator! wow you have come to save us all.
It’ll probably help if he knew who Blime Edgell was,.. I think that’s the key to interperating that, because even I had to read very, very carefully to get it, Haverack.
alrighty then….
Its a joke mate….Its all good get used to them they happen a lot…See its more of an in joke and if you read the amounts of comment simon leaves on other peoples work youll soon work it out…..Its all good
I was writing that comment laughing. Jack said i was being aggressive its not true i was having a laugh. …..yIIIpPppEEEEE.
Nah, I just think it’d be handy if he was familiarised with everybody first?,..lol.. then he’d be able to understand the joke,..because at the moment, you probably said something that sounded like fluent Mandarin.
welcome DC, well a nice introduction to the site, sounds like you’ve been around the proverbial music tech yard a few times, nice mixing, sequenced drums sound pretty solid, what you using for them by the way? vocalist sounds calm and confident which is good, piano track is not bad, kind of kills the rock vibe a little for me, overall a very aseptical approach to a rock song, everything has its place and is super super clean…..would love to hear more raw grit and evidence of life in the track bubling away, but a good track overall….well done mate….
I wish i knew how to record/mix like this.. It just sounds so much more polished than my stuff.. Very keen to hear more DC!
Thanks guys… don’t worry Haverack I have a thick skin and have learned to not make eye contact when the inmates are loose! LOL
Dave J – Yep I have been around the music tech for a while – 4 years of full time and then 6 years of part time composing/ mixing for film and TV (part time meaning another 8 hours after the day job). As far as drums – I use Addictive Drums for most tracks and if I have time will overdub some cymbal hits.
DC and the polymer guys jammed the other week.. DC started this song and before we know it we had a decent rendition going…. Wish i’d hit record… Very cool to meet you DC.. we must do it again sometime.. (i’m also keen for a recording lesson at your place sometime if your up for it)… A cool song.. made even better when you get to jam on it with mates..
Yeah it was fun Brad… I talked to Jeff about having Allen come up and sing a little and maybe get a solid "live version" of this song and maybe My TV going.
Would love to have you come down and cut some tracks.
So much talent in one room and you failed to hit record Brad?…
UNFORGIVEABLE!!! to a groupie like me…
