Allen McConnell – Living A Dream

Hey everyone! You are all somewhat familiar with me already. I am the singer that has worked with DC Wave. DC and I teamed up after he heard me play my song MY TV at a local acoustic night. I’m a songwriter not a sound engineer so it’s worked out quite well. I have enjoyed listening and also reading all the comments 🙂
This is my limited offering working with the equipment I have currently. I guess I’m looking more for feedback on the song itself. I know DC could produce this one with his magical abilities.
Anyway I have a few other songs I will be posting all without drums..sorry 🙁
It’s a pleasure to be here!!

Hey!! Allen,… YES,.. we do know you very well from plenty of DC collabs as the 5 star singer!, you remind me alot like one of my frequent plays, Neil Diamond, the ultra successful singer/songwriter, I’m very very envious of your voice and songwriting,.. ‘MY TV’ is an absolutely joyous track, it was catchy and retrospective, I certainly took the hook and no matter how hard I tried to struggle free, I was pulled all the way into the boat with that, a bloody ripper mate, whacked on the head with the oar, a knife up the belly, scaled, and happy to be eaten!

This tune, flowed quite nicely, and It has a nice chorus, nice lyrics too, I think it would go really well with some DC enhancements to sparkle and twinkle around your lyrics, the theme is very strong, there’s alot to work with here, it has a ‘sailing on a tranquil rainbow coloured river with a ukelele’ type of optimistic vibe about it,..it also reminds me a bit of David Bowie’s earlier solo pieces on the bbc with his accoustic.

80% ,.. but this is a raw mark only, because it’s potential with some appropriate decorative extras could really put this one into the stratusphere.

It’s a pleasure to have you here Allan, I’ve been a fan for quite a while. :>

    Welcome Mr Mcconnell!

Youve got a hell of a voice on you mate.. Great to hear a stripped down song of yours as we are all familiar with DC’s classy "fairy dusted" posts of your stuff. A nice A/B between studio and relatively raw.

K, to the song. I cant really fault the structure, vocal melody or lyrics. The vocal performance was very very solid for a one track piece (ie: no harmonies, backing etc). I’m guessing this is a demo type deal so you can record the song with DC at some point? Obviously some of the guitar sounds were a bit rough (amp sim maybe? guitar rig or amplitube etc?) but thats cool for what it is.

One part I think could be improved is the acoustic strumming. Seemed a little mechanical from start to finish. The occasional softer touch (with the same strum pattern) at chosen times could really make some of your nicely written and performed vocals have more impact. Apart from that one little tidbit, theres not much else in my "could be improved bag" for this one.

Classy debut, and hoping to hear more..

Rating the song and recording as is: 70%

A bit of recording polish would raise that massively.

    and again,

    Welcome!

Hey mate, welcome to the site as in in a solo sense, i like it, it bops along in it’s own right, it’s a nice change from the super well engineered DCWAVE collabs, while they are good it’s nice to have this pop up to mix it up a little….You do sing along to each melody with the up most ease, sounds like you are more than comfortable behind a mic, interested to hear if you have other styling’s you delve into, but for this one it’s nice, not my usual style i listen to everyday but i can appreciate whats going on here…85%

Thanks for the hearty welcome guys! A definite confidence builder 🙂
I’ve got to get my Neil D records out now Mangrove. That’s a lot of voice to live up to… I’ll need the practice.
As for the recording polish…I’m hoping for more time with DC soon.

    More scratch tracks to come…

Yeah Allen, I like Neil Diamond, he wrote some daaaamn good stuff,.. Tarantino liked him too, he’s been implemented into his movies a few times, nobody is an exact replica, but you’ve definitely got enough of the good stuff out of Neil’s tone, aswell as some individual tones of your own, to be quite a force. In many ways you’ve got a more lucid flow to your vocals than Neil did, I’m not sure if Neil could make a synth 80’s pop tune like ‘My TV’ the way you did, but lol, that’s why you’re here, if he could pull it off, that may have been it, a pity, Neil’s career slowed down a bit in the 80’s, and you could have most certainly taken his place.

Welcome to TFML as well sir…echoing the others….

I like the song, especially your vocals….you have a really solid rock voice which is killer and for me makes the track. The vocal lines you wrote were very nice and catchy….I could easily see that song getting in your head…very radio/rock friendly and I’m sure anyone that hears it would nod there head in agreement of that. The distorted guitar seemed a bit off in regards to the effect…but who am I to judge that…I don’t have the Dave–DC–Brad skills at audio engineering…but going off what I hear….that part could be cleaned up. The bridge might benefit from a different direction, it seemed to follow to closely to the verse….but that’s just my style I guess, so take it for what it’s worth…..I’m really impressed overall with the song and again, love your vocals–you have a stellar voice. looking forward to more from you.

    rating…..uh….hmm….87.25342 %…..hows that! 🙂

I’ve been trying to get Neil, er… Allen, over to do this one. We have a couple to work on and I would like to have this be next.
