Tahr very much, shall do once the download for Brad’s ‘Headfirst punk’ song is finished, … I tellya.. so far… if I had to create the ‘perfect’ tune,.. I’d have the first half of Tim’s “Growing old Town” Dave’s “Crazy Mario” in the centre and the last half of Brad’s “And the challenger is” at the end.. sweet compilations gentleman.

I love this one. Tim actually dresses in a grass skirt and paints his nipples in rainbow colours when he plays this. Not an attractive sight.

I definitely agree with Dave that we’re on a boat in this one, on a boat with Paul Mcartney, David Bowie, Kermit the frog, Ween and a 1930’s ‘his masters voice’ wialis. Speaking of master, Tim’s a master of character and innovation, it reflects in his singing and his arrangements, but he also has a tendency to jerk and strain the hull, sometimes it works, sometimes it does not, in growing old town it worked beautifully, this time, the anchor tore the cavity in half, the stern sent the nozel into a deep abyss and the structure swelled up like a pumpkin and EXPLODED into busted planks that twist and pirouette in the air in thousands of bits.

    One for the oysters.

man this is super cool…i already commented on this and i thought it deserved another. You and me were laughing about this track the other night as we listened but i think its spot on the production side and has the coolest feel to it…I am sipping beers to this right now and loving it, reminds me of summer instantly…

The haunting ‘barbershop quartet and picnic’ feel did tickle the senses I reckon Dave,… it just seemed a little strained for me, and the feint drumbeat sounded like a stumbling shin snick. He was on to something though, you gotta love his persuit for different styles, that’s what artists like WEEN,.. or David Bowie do,.. and are usually successful in thier reinventions.

  11. freemusiclabel February 20, 2009 4:03 pm  Reply

yeah i agree jack i hear the strain a little but i think its due to the song being rushed rather than forcing out something out un-natural… I’m not looking at this as a song thats part of a compilation more a specific stand out piece… I totally understand the reinvention too but i think that is more of a selfish persuit rather than this (or what seems to me) as a experimental journey that the detour ended up being worth the risk… If you hadn’t already picked up jack i’m challenging you to a duel…En garde!

Ourf, *holds the soft belly,.. Im in bad shape for a dool,…but Daiiiiyv, your songs raise the dead! half the populous of the graveyard run to the music shop, the other go festering for brains and blood in equal measure I love it!… but your songs are so few and far between,..I have all of them already!!!, and I want to clutch some mooooooore, like a currawong flying off with all Marph’s dogs balls.

Sorry what’s that? “Tim’s a genius”? oh, sorry, don’t worry, I thought you were saying somthing I didn’t already know.

Hey Hey, the uke sounds really nice. Tell me what you’re recording through yeah? Like mikes and interfaces and shit.

As for the raging if somewhat abstracted debate over this song; I like it all (particuarily the hand claps, ha!) but think he was a bit selfconcious in the really high bit.

Also, that southern american drawl needs to fucking die in a hole of the proverbial burning aids.

The first verse reminds me of what I like about Dappled Cities Fly.

Then ill make a full version and place it on a cd and not on this site.(Like a demo)…….Just kidding it will be here….(slight inside Joke). This site is the shit!

This is the most innovative sounding song on the site so far,.. I honestly have heard nothing like it before, and it’s a gem,.. this is why I think that the ”trials of a bear” stuff is too forced, not natural for you, and it’s a waste of your time, Fats. Just remember, the songs that come easiest to your mind, on the spur of a moment,.. like the Negro shoe shiner, or the man who had his wife murdered by a Pakistani in the shed, (remember, while Brad Gwyn was over?), they are your gifts, that’s what comes natural for you, and you should use it, it’s gold, I have massive belief in you, dont forget who you were, and how you used to entertain your friends back in the day.

i agree with jack about innovation, man, ok yep this is my favorite song on the whole site! don’t you dare touch this one timbo, leave it exactly as it is…..if we had a featured section on the front page i would selfishly make this autoplay everytime someone comes to the site…love it
